SUMMARY:Book Event: A New Release from Local Author Aaron Dworkin
DESCRIPTION:Lessons in Gratitude: A Memoir on Race\, the Arts\, and Mental Health\nTuesday\, Oct. 8\, 6:00pm   $45\n\nThe Roadhouse is honored to welcome back local author Aaron Dworkin to celebrate the release of his latest work\, Lessons in Gratitude: A Memoir on Race\, the Arts\, and Mental Health\, on Tuesday October 8th. Join us as Aaron\, a MacArthur Fellow\, social entrepreneur\, UofM professor\, multimedia artist\, and poetjournalist\, dives into his story about how he has dedicated his life’s work to changing the face of classical arts in the world. The themes of persistence\, passion\, and loyalty shine through stories of a lifelong search for identity and the obstacles of race\, culture\, and class. Readers will learn how the author greets these challenges and how they drove him to make a difference for people who are shut out of opportunity. Persistence in the face of multiple obstacles ultimately led Dworkin to create the Sphinx Organization\, whose mission is to transform lives through the power of diversity in the arts. \n\nOf Lessons in Gratitude\, Lara Downes\, host of NPR’s Amplify and a Billboard Chart–topping recording artist\, says: \n“An open\, honest\, and compassionate account of a singular life in which music\, art\, community\, and humanity are inextricably connected. Aaron Dworkin’s story is proof positive of the immense power of the arts to change the world for the better\, in ways both big and small\, immediate and long-lasting.” \nLessons in Gratitude is a coming-of-age story that examines the difficulties of biracial identity across generations and the challenges that mixed-race families still face today. On October 8th\, Aaron will open up about how he has overcome these challenges as he explores his latest compelling work\, and we would love for you to hear what he has to say in person. We will enjoy delicious Roadhouse snacks\, but bring an appetite for a transformative experience with Aaron Dworkin! \nAppetizer Menu\nSouthwest Vegetable Soup Shooters (Vegan)\nRoadhouse Fried Chicken Sliders\nPimento Cheese Canapes (V)

We are releasing it at an exclusive boucherie-style dinner on Tuesday\, October 15th\, and we would love for you to be the first to taste it! \nHighline Spirits believes that just as each of us is a blending of our accumulated unique experiences\, great whiskeys can come from the blending of great unique ingredients. The founder and our guest of honor for this dinner\, Christi Lower\, seeks to find art and inspiration in all her blends\, and is blazing a trail with her new line of regional spirits\, blended and finished in Dexter\, Michigan\, where she grew up. We’re proud to work with Christi in the formulation of an exclusive\, limited release blend for our bourbon-loving friends of the Roadhouse\, and cannot think of a more appropriate occasion to release the barrel than at a dinner showcasing the best of Highline! \nEveryone attending the dinner will get to savor a taste of our new bourbon! SUMMARY:Book Event: How Disinformation is Sabotaging America

She is also a legal analyst for NBC News and MSNBC\, and a co-host of the podcast #SistersInLaw. From 2010 to 2017\, McQuade served as U.S Attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan. Holder Jr\, 82nd Attorney General of the United States\, says “A great public servant and one of the most acute observers of our time shares insightful views about the menace of disinformation.” \nOn October 22nd at the Roadhouse\, Barbara will talk to us in person about how to identify the ways disinformation is seeping into all facets of our society\, how it is designed to evoke a strong emotional response to push us toward more extreme views\, unable to find common ground with others\, and how we can fight against it. Copies of her book will be available for purchase and autograph\, and delicious appetizers will be included.
